LGPS regulation changes 2026: impact on Fund Employers

The Government have now regulated changes that will allow members to continue to build-up pension during periods of authorised unpaid and child-related leave. Following the regulation changes, employers must make amendments to processes and systems. These changes will apply from 1 April 2026.

Fund launches new Pensions Administration Strategy

1 April 2026

The Fund’s new Pensions Administration Strategy (PAS) has launched 1 April 2026. The PAS was finalised at the March committee following consultation feedback from our Fund employers.

2025 Actuarial Valuation update

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is now required for i-Connect users

We’re rolling out multi-factor authentication (MFA) for i-Connect, to help keep the data you share with us safer. 

All employers will be using MFA for i-Connect by the end of July 2025.

LGPS 'Access and fairness' consultation launched

13 June 2025

MHCLG has launched a consultation on changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales. The proposed changes are intended to improve fairness in and access to the LGPS.

The consultation closes on 7 August 2025.

Dashboard News: Address formatting

2 April 2025

Ahead of the implementation of the Pension Dashboard, it’s very important that all member addresses are recorded in the correct format, particularly the postcode.

This is because the address and postcode will be used to match members with their pension figures once the Pension Dashboard is live. 

New Neonatal Care Leave and Pay Regulations Announced

2 April 2025

On February 24, 2025, the Department for Business and Trade introduced the Neonatal Care Leave and Pay Regulations 2025. 

Under this new statutory entitlement, Assumed Pensionable Pay must be applied for to any Employed Parents who take Neonatal Care Leave (NCL), for babies born after 5 April 2025.

Employer Contribution Rates 2025/26

20 March 2025

To assist you with your payroll processes, a list of future service rates (FSR) and deficit recovery / surplus figures for the 2025-2026 financial year are now available.

Employers must ensure that the correct rates are applied and that deficit payments are made as required. Please check the valuation report issued by the Actuarial Team for confirmation. If you have outsourced, your payroll, please ensure that you pass this information on to the appropriate contacts.

Process update: Simpler contributions submissions for Finance

4 February 2025

In a move to streamline data submission processes, i-Connect has been designated as the primary platform for remittance information related to contributions. This change follows the removal of the LGPS50 form, a decision aimed to alleviate the burden on employers who previously had to submit duplicate data. 

If there is a difference between your monthly i-Connect submission and the actual payment we receive, you must complete a Submission reconciliation form.
